   Comments: I am so proud of the new masjid commitee for taking action in seperating MMA and the masjid....because not everyone in the community agrees with the way MMA is run. The masjid should and does belong to the muslim community of Halifax not MMA.

    Comments: Why should the school board be in control of the Masjid? They have played an important part in this project, but let us not forget that it was the community that ultimately built this masjid through their donations and efforts (and the MMA is a part of the community, unless they would like to contend otherwise). The Masjid is a facility for all Muslims, so why should the school board have full control over the Masjid and ignore the opinions of the community? We should keep in mind that this petition and any action following are the result of the MMAs refusal to cooperate, both with the IMC and the Elected Committee. There will always be differing opinions on what is best for the Masjid and the community, and this is completely normal. Who should have the final say in matters that we do not agree upon? Are we not intelligent or mature enough to resolve our issues as a community through dialogue and compromise? If we are not, then I can understand the need for the MMA to step in and tell us the right way to do things. However, I believe we are more than capable of successfully running the Masjid and community center together, and that anyone who has the willingness and desire to help should be able to do so and have their contribution valued. The only way that we can actually give everyone in the community the ability to express their view and have an effect on the operations of our Masjid is through an elected committee. Perhaps the school board is reluctant to let go of the power they have because they think that they're going to be held responsible for their previous offenses such as fraudulent tax returns and obscene salaries. I strongly urge the committee to ignore the past and look to the future, and I believe that if the MMA board is assured that no legal action will be taken against them for past transgressions they will be more willing to cooperate with the transition. I would like to suggest that any future proposal given to the MMA includes this aforementioned reassurance explicitly, and that it be presented in the most non-threatening manner possible.
