Skateboarding and similar "recreational sports" are not allowed on Minnesota-Duluth's campus. As stated above skateboarding, long-boarding, and snowboarding are "sports." Violations are being given out for them even hitting the ground. Banning a sport is not fair to all who participate in this sport. It is the same as telling a football player to stop throwing the football around. What are the risks involved in order for these action sports to be banned. The main response to this is liability issues. If you think about sports most of them are violent and injuries do occur whether it's just throwing a ball around or in a game. It is telling someone to stop what they love and here at University of Minnesota Duluth there are no nearby skateparks or areas to practice safely. Would you rather have them move to the streets where incoming traffic and busses are heavy rather than on safe sidewalks here on campus. Anything can happen, accidents happen. Skateboarding and these similar sports are beneficial. They serve as a sport, hobby, transportation, exercise, and as a lifestyle. For all these people signing who are involved or are agreeing with all of the statements above, we all believe this ban should be revised or a place should be made on campus for these sports to be practiced.
