Martin W. Allen | Computer Science | The current level of mandatory fees is such that it becomes prohibitive at higher credit loads. The escalation of fees along with credits, as in the curriculum fee, encourages--or even forces--graduate students to take reduced course loads, increasing the time spent in graduate school. This is undesirable in itself, and a subject on which I often caution prospective students to UMass. Such considerations should not enter into a student's decision to attend the University; unfortunately, I know that this is not the case.
George Avrunin | Mathematics and Statistics |
Brian J. Taylor | Computer Science | The high fees and low salary that I, as a graduate student, receive, has caused me several times to think about leaving UMass. I might still do so as I near completion of my Master's as I'd be more than happy to leave the high cost of this state and go finish my PhD where it is more affordable. I attended graduate school once before, over 7 years ago, and during that time made more money at a lower tiered public institution than I do here. I find it laughable that the UMass administration considers everything acceptable.

Sangeeta Kamat | Education EPRA | These fees are against the interests of students, faculty and the wider academic community.
Hasan | Economics |
Roberto Olivares | Computer Science | The fees are outrageous. If I had known my actual salary (with fees accounted for) in my offer letter was this low, and the rents in Amherst this high, I would have seriously reconsidered UMass.
