Comments: You cannot at once claim to be a public institution that encourages, debate , discussion , civic engagement and active learning and at the same time suppress political activity that you disagree with. You are administering a public trust. As such , you need to allow all students to express their viewpoints and organize around issues that they think are important. The 100 poster limitation is either being enforced in a discriminatory manner to target a group you disapprove of , or it is a generalized bureaucratic restriction on free speech and academic freedom. In either case, it needs to be thrown out. The U.S. Supreme Court has held that corporations are people and can give almost unlimited contributions to buy politicians and policies. As silly as this is, do you think that it is consistent with this opinion to restrict real people ( not corporate "people") from expressing their opinion by posting more than 100 posters? How can you possibly reconcile that? Your attack on the ISO is transparently based on pure political animus, which violates basic free speech, and the First Amendment and Massachusetts constitutional provisions. This attack is noticed across the U.S. Don't destroy your reputation. Do the right thing and stop the attack! " The whole world is watching"!!

Comments: I am a UMB alum currently in my graduate studies at UC Davis. It is sad to see the repression that student activists are facing in the UC (the pepper spray that became famous world wide, police brutality at UC Berkeley where students were hit with batons, and then the trumped up and bogus charges filed against students peacefully sitting in front of Bank of America on campus, etc) is being mirrored at UMB. The administration needs to stop repressing student dissent and activism immediately! Comments: I am class of '77. I think I speak for maost alumni and urge you to restore ISO's status as a student group. I know many of the students in that group and the UMass community should be proud of each and every one of them, they are an outstanding group of stuents and activists.

Comments: As a 2010 alumnus of the University of Massachusetts Amherst, I find these accusations and encroachment of student political activism disturbing and an affront to the very vibrant tradition of activism that has been the historic legacy of UMass Boston and my own campus in Amherst. Universities should be spaces that are open to a diversity of student engagement and activity, and allow students to publicize and fund their organizing, and exercise their right to free speech and association, which the UMB ISO is acting upon. All harassment and disciplinary action should cease immediately, and any funding taken away should be reinstated.
