Since 2010 the UKA has been on a mission to change the current examination system in all its theatre grades, so that the exams can carry UCAS points and the candidates gain accredited examination status. The hoops that the association has had to jump through to make this possible contradict all that the UKA has ever stood for, for 109 years, It will make more work for both the association and the teachers and at the end of the process gives nothing more than; makes an expensive mess of what is already a tried and tested successful service. The changes that the government also have in place for removing the UCAS pointing system and changes to how accredited examinations are policed make it near impossible for the once a week student to achieve anything. The process is also being farmed out to another organisation that has no credibility in our industry. As members were not consulted on the change of the current system, (as per the articles of association) our main aim is to firstly ascertain whether or not UKA teachers and examiners want to have an accredited examination system? From these findings we will then move forward to make what ever changes if any are the most positive for the teachers and students. If you feel that an accredited system will not work for you, your business and make no difference to your pupil’s futures, then please sign our E- petition so that we can then approach the Council of Management with our findings.
