Name: Tom Klobe on Apr 30, 2003State: HICountry: USComments: First, the new logo has already cost taxpayers $82K. The UH administration will not say how much it will now cost to have everything within the system changed. That could be in the millions. Second, neither new logo is well designed. Third, the UH already has a logo, however, the administration is trying to supress that fact. The present logo represents the UH most appropriately as it is based on the UH seal. Name: Catherine Iwami on Apr 30, 2003State: HICountry: USComments: The logo designed for the University of Hawaii is terrible. Knowing the amount being paid out for this logo is outragious! Why wasn't a local deigner hired A better design could have been created by the University of Hawaii art or design students! The deigns look to feminine and way to Asian! How does that represent Hawaii Don't waste tax payers money on such weak deigns. Invite the local community.Flag

Name: Robert Blust on Apr 30, 2003State: HICountry: USComments: Wouldn't it have been better to conduct a referendum concerning the need for a new UH logo before this all began At this point there is such an investment of time, effort and money that it seems pointless to stop the process, yet there does appear to be a fair amount of dissatisfaction with the results. I'd call the whole thing bad planning.Flag

Let us retain things that are old and meaningful, and spend $82K for things that are more urgent eg., badly needed maintenance, programs that are being cut, instead of a nonessential new logo. Name: Tiffany Taira on Apr 30, 2003State: HICountry: USComments: I feel those logos are totally rediculous. There is no way that those logos should represent the University system. For one, the logo with the H and other design in it looks like a gong or a design from the Mortal Kombat video game, as for the other, what is that We aren't a school that teaches surf lessons. What's so wrong with the seal we have now At least that looks like something of what a school seal should be of, something of higher excellence and also the state motto included. I wouldn't pay a dime for those logos and yes we all have an opinion but when it comes to $82,000, it's more then just an opinion. We students have almost no say in what goes on with the University, even though we are the ones who make up the University, somehow everyone forgets this. Getting back on subject, the logo should not pass, it's absolutely horrid and as an art major I was appauld to hear that no one even consulted with any of the art/design dept with the design. Does this mean our own school does not believe in the students and their abilities if we are striving for higher excellence, it would be nice to know that our school has faith in what it can produce. I think it's a slap in our face. I have no more to say about this.Flag
