Comments: A strong reactions by UGA faculty is needed to maintain the trust of the students. Also a strong reaction and clarification that tenure situation was not the real reason for no actions, so that this can not be used to eliminate the tenure system. Tenure does not shield any faculty from administrative inquiries and from justified swift actions but guaranties to some necessary degree academic freedom and intellectual independence on academic issues.

Comments: I strongly support the creation of an ombuds program and women's center at UGA. I have seen the value of these resources at other institutions.

Comments: I was involved in a sexual harassment case last Spring. The professor had been making advances towards me for over a year. I confronted him about it and told him it was inappropriate and causing me to have panic attacks at work. He said he would stop. Four months later he was at it again. The professor was investigated, but there was no witnesses to the behavior he exhibited towards me (he would always close his office door or wait until everyone else had gone home before making comments, or trying to make a physical advance towards me). He was, however, found to have had sexual relations with a graduate student in the past, and his only punishment after my accusation was to go to a sexual harassment class. He didn't end up really having to go. I had to change labs in the middle of graduate school and start over on a new thesis. I'll finish on time, but I've had to work over 12 hours a day, including weekends, to catch up. Is this fair

Comments: I would make the last word of the first paragraph "appropriate" rather than severe, as all sexual harassment is not the same.
