The future is now! The future is unevenly distributed. The Berkeley Center for New Media provides a space for alternative thinking and design. In the interest of cultivating cutting-edge technologies and developing widespread new media platforms let us establish New Media Department and build Undergraduate Major. Let’s create an informed public.

New Media fuses art and technology to explore the relationship between humans and technology. Cutting edge technologies and new discoveries continue to progress our modern world. In present day society our world has adapted to everyday use multimedia interfaces. The future is now; the issue we are faced with is equal dissemination of information. Experimentation with technology and media platforms will further advancements in the public’s interest. Living in today’s digital revolution we have the power to develop and disseminate new ideas and make advancements in technology widely accessible.

The Berkeley Center for New Media (BCNM) is a breeding grounds for discovery and innovation. BCNM facilitates lectures by leading researchers and innovators across the world. With approximately 120 affiliated faculties currently BCNM offers a designated emphasis for graduate students and a certificate program for master students. Currently undergraduates are allowed take specified New Media courses. With an academic mission already in action it is time for the Berkeley Center for New Media to advance into an official Department and establish an Undergraduate New Media Major.

Fiat Lux translates Let There be Light, as students of the University we have the responsibility to ensure it progresses with the public in mind. We have the duty to shape our academic institution.  Establishing an undergraduate New Media Major will provide the infrastructure needed to connect the researchers to the students. The process of putting this development into action will entail working with the faculty and board of BCNM to map out an official academic program. From the provided courses we will link together the prerequisites and the upper division offerings. We will look into new faculty and lecturers as well as new courses. This process will take extensive and consistent work with members of BCNM.
