THE FACTS
Every day, American citizens and lawful permanent residents are facing separation or exile and are forced to leave the United States because they are denied a basic right to stay with their family.

WHY?
Under current immigration and federal laws, a US citizen or lawful permanent resident cannot file to have their foreign-born same-sex spouse stay permanently even though their marriage is legal in their state of residency.

THE SOLUTION
The Uniting American Families Act (UAFA, H.R. 1537, S. 821) is a U.S. bill to amend the Immigration and Nationality Act to eliminate discrimination in immigration by permitting permanent partners of United States citizens and of lawful permanent residents to obtain lawful permanent resident status in order to keep their family together in the United States.

It is not about politics, marriage; it is simply an act to put an end to discriminating and tearing our families apart and allow any US citizen to fulfill his or her pursuit of happiness, a basic human right without having to choose to leave his or her country in order to stay with and build a family.

Congresswoman Nan Hayworth of the 19th Congressional District has not yet co-sponsored this Bill.
This petition (along with its signatures) is necessary to show that this is a matter essential to her constituents and help the matter move forward in the House.
