Name: Connie Lehman on Dec 12, 2007Comments: Please keep the Turtle Beach camping area open for our residents and guests to share in our beautiful area. What a tragedy it would be to allow the wishes of a miniscule portion of our community to dictate who can enjoy our beaches in this manner.

Name: Anonymous on Dec 12, 2007Comments: Please preserve this special space for all community members to enjoy. If there are issues of discontent with local homeowners, I'm sure that people working together can resolve them. I am optimistic that there are many alternatives to shutting the campground down entirely--and something positive might even come out of trying to work it out among people! Thank you!

Name: Rebecca King on Dec 13, 2007Comments: Please do not allow a few outspoken local Turtle Beach homeowners trample the will of so many Sarasotans and tourists who treasure this campground so much. The campground has been here since 1921, and has been a rare gem on the west coast, as well as a piece of this town's history. If local residents do not like being next to campers, then they should not have built or purchase houses next to a campground. It would be an appalling perversion of justice if these few are able to change the face of the entire beach.

Name: Brenda Dowling on Dec 14, 2007Comments: I thought that the Parks and Recreation Dept. was supposed to support local, good, family recreation. When I visited TurtleBeach campground I saw mostly LOCAL families doing the things that we all used to safely do all over Florida ,when life was slower. Now, to take that away from these families and replace with a parking lot No wonder our youth are on a downhill slide. Thanks, Parks and Rec.!!! A new playground will not produce the same memories for these local hardworking parents. LEAVE THIS ALONE SO THESE KIDS HAVE A GREAT PLACE TO BE WITH THEIR FAMILIES. I promise you that when these kids grow up all of Sarasota Co. will be proud that they are good and happy citizens. This camping experience can only help that happen. Care for the kids not the man who CHOSE to move next to it .He blames noise on the campground. Campers and campgrounds are much quieter than the ajoining parking lot is at night.

If you close the campground, I will have no reason to return to Florida or Sarasota. I will no longer spend my money in your state or your town. You will lose money by removing a very nice tourism site.

Name: Richard Bauer on Dec 15, 2007Comments: Not all camping activities occur in wilderness areas. Some take place just outside cities and some take place on beaches. The people who camp there, even IF they are 'outsiders', where do you suppose those people shop for food, gas and other staples of life where do you think they spend their entertainment dollars I wouldn't be too quick to run those folks out of town.

Name: Mary Dukes on Dec 15, 2007Comments: Campers give a lot to the community where they camp. We spend money on meals, groceries, gas (LP and auto), supplies, etc. You know if a camper is in your county they aren't spending money elsewhere. If you are having trouble with campers then you need better campground managers!

Name: Joe Hart on Dec 16, 2007Comments: After hurricane Charley this is where many uutility workers were forced to stay while helping with recovery. I know this because I gave directions there to some and couln`t believe they were not permitted to stay in Walmarts parking lots. It was true, they were all there camping while HELPING us to recover. Take this away and I demand to know what the commishioners have planned for the relief workers next time we get hit. And you know we will get hit because the state just changed to roofing codes to protect us from another big storm.

I'm assuming the campground was there when these people bought their houses. They knew the circumstances and the situation. It's offenseive that they want to change the existing situation for their individual benefit. I live in the country, people have sued to cancel contracts on recently purchased houses when the wind blows from the countryside and they realize they have cows for neighbors! Or, even worse, they then try to enact ordinances that remove the cows from their olfactory presence. Seems like reality dictates what's there first should have precedence.

It will be a Great dissappointment if it is not preserved for us campers. We have very limited places to be on the ocean. Please consider those of us who just want to relax and enjoy the scenery and area in Peace and Quit! If my money won't be good enough, we'll plan to head to another state. Thank You
