Comments: The only reason Turkey is in this difficult position is because the extreme right wing Republican govt. in the US and the British govt wish to make an imperialist grab for control of oil, not just Iraqi oil, but all the oil in the Middle East. Turkey should continue to stand against this imperialism.

Comments: This is an appeal from a citizen of the United States of America. I don't think you want innocent people killed in your country nor Iraq. I don't think you would want to subject your children to what will happen to the children of Iraq if the USA invades. The hawks of this country, USA have not proven it is necessary to invade Iraq. As you know there is no conclusive evidence at this time that Iraq is a threat to the world. Please don't support the USA's movement towards world dominance. This country’s world dominance will hurt your country not help it. The USA’s charge towards world dominance will hurt our country as well. Please demand that the USA drop the sanctions on Iraq. I am sure you are aware the sanctions thus far are responsible for the deaths of more than one million Iraqi people. More than one half of these human beings were children. According to United Nations estimates, 90,000 people a year are dying due to the sanctions placed on Iraq. More than one half of these deaths are children under ten years of age. Please understand the sanctions are a “weapon of mass destruction.” According to an article in Foreign Affairs, May/June 1999 p.51 John and Karl Mueller state “…economic sanctions may well have been a cause of the death of more people in Iraq than have been slain by all so-called weapons of mass destruction throughout history.” I am sure you are aware that the present sanctions on Iraq are in violation of the Geneva Convention. The people of Iraq have done nothing to harm us people here in the United States and I don’t believe they have done any harm to the humans in your country either. Please respond to the better side of human nature and oppose a war on Iraq. The better side of human nature would take the knowledge we gain from this crisis and strive for world peace not dominance. Respectfully, Pete Anderson.
