Palo Alto alone uses an average of 14 units per residence which is 40% more than the state average. The majority of that residential water goes into lawns and landscapes. Water pricing often favors large users by pricing water very cheaply. Return to the price structure of earlier major droughts and water conservation will be taken seriously. Tax or charge those water wasters who divert hundreds of millions of gallons of water to the storm drains during construction. Palo Alto alone diverts a hundred million gallons or more each year in the process of constructing basements. The price of water in San Francisco is very low and conservation does not have much reward. Please select the alternative that supports conservation and NO additional diversion of water from the Tuolumne. IF San Francisco needs more water, then pay farmers to fallow land and divert that water to San Francisco . Oh and reimburse farmers at a price that makes them whole so the farmer does not suffer a net loss because of water sales. |
