Comments: Sites such as Tripadvisor are very dangerous and should be regulated by law. They allow anyone to post anything without any form of validation. Good luck with your site

Comments: Hey, good luck with the site, it's about time someone gets the truth about how TA manipulates hotel owners. We had 2 customers removed from our hotel because they stole 3 bottles of whiskey from our bar. We called the police and had them arrested. Now they are posting lies about us and our hotel. I have sent TA numerous emails with the police report, but TA refuses to remove the reviews. We have had numerous guests tell us they posted a good review for us, but they never get approved, but all the bad ones seem to get approved without any problems. We asked to be removed completely, but we never heard back, and that was more than a month ago..

Comments: I have tried contacting tripadvisor numerous times to have a very nasty and personal review removed from a person that has never stayed at our guest house. We have our suspicions who posted it, but cannot prove it. It's wrong for TA to post just anything without at least checking it validity. Good Luck with your site, i'm sure you will be getting a lot of support

Comments: Tripadvisor really needs to clean their act, if things carry on like this, people will soon move away. It is clear that people, both owners and travelers abuse the lack of validation used by TA. It is very easy to post false reviews on TA

Comments: I'm glad I found your site, we had someone blackmail us, they actually sent us emails that we have sent to tripadvisor because the couple posted a very personal and negative review. So far tripadvisor refuses to remove our review. It's not fair, we work really hard to please our customers, we understand that we cannot please everyone, and are open to JUSTIFIED remarks, but why should we have to accept blatant lies about us and our accommodation? we have 27 excellent reviews and 2 very bad reviews ( both from the same couple posted a week apart) my wife cannot stop crying, because of these remarks. I really wish tripadvisor would at least look at our evidence that these are unjustible. Good Luck with the site, I hope it helps people

Comments: TA are pathetic, they allow complete strangers to post whatever they wish, but as a property owner that wants to dispute the review, you only get 200 characters to state your case!!. A managers response is also lame, as a manager you are unable to respond properly, you have to almost kiss ass

Comments: I fully support what you are doing. I used to think TA was a great idea, until we got our first poor review from someone who was not even a guest at our establishment, wrecking our high ranking in the process. I was shocked to discover TA will allow the unscrupulous and spiteful to post anything they like and there is nothing we can do about it. I reported the review, but TA found it 'met their guidlines' (surprise surprise). It is good to see the growing backlash.

Comments: I agree wit all the above, TA has gotten way out of control. I myself use TA, I do not own accommodation however I have stayed in numerous very nice places, and have heard other guests complaining about anything and everything.. Coffee too hot, tea to cold, boiled eggs too hot, chairs not comfortable, picture on wall is crooked etc. etc. and I have heard numerous people say they would post on TA.. C'mon people!, complain if there are bed bugs, or the milk is completely sour, not because your boiled egg ( that is complimentry) is too hot or cold. I am all for TA using some for of validating reviews, both good and bad. It would definitely make TA a better and more reliable place. Good luck

Comments: I stoped using tripadvisor because they became very unreliable. Hotel owners post false reviews to boost themselves on tripadvisor, and the competition posts libel posts to damage the reputation.. what is true and what are lies?? what's the point.

Comments: Tripadvisor has absolutely no morals. We had negative review posted by someone who has clearly never stayed at our B&B. They said a train came past every hour!!.. We are 40 minutes from the nearest railway track. They also said the owner had an alchohol problem. We tried to to have the review removed, but it is still there after 3 weeks, and Tripadvisor is doing nothing about it, even after we sent proof that we are no where near a railway. So frustrating!! What can we do?

Comments: Enough is enough....I 100% agreed with the petitioner as I myself have 12 emails account and always use them to create a very appealing and very good reviews about my motel and at a same time use those emails to write bad about my competitors as well. So where is a validation check, how does TA verifies that I am the actual guest who has stayed at so and so motel/hotel...This is totally crap, they need to shut down TA..

Comments: Things are going from bad to worse with Tripadvisor, 3 years ago we had never heard of them, 2 years ago we had 1 case of someone threatening us wit tripadvisor, last year we had between 20-30 people threatening us with Tripddvisor, and so far in the first 5 months of 2011 we have had more than 40 people trying to get "extras" otherwise they will post on tripadvisor.. and at least 90% of EVERYONE staying here, mentions Tripadvisor within the first 2 minutes of arriving.. We are decent people running a very decent hotel, we work very hard to make everyone's stay an enjoyable one, and to be frank, we are sick of people threatening us with the likes of Tripadvisor. Just last week we had someone post a nasty lie about us on tripadvisor, because we did not supply them with a "plug converter"... Is it up to us to supply a converter?.. because of this this person posted that we had bed bugs, and the pool was filthy dirty!!. Good luck with your site, I really hope Tripadvisor does the right thing, and put an end to these malicious reviews

Comments: I agree with you on TripAdvisor. I had a couple recently stay at my hotel. I agree they may have had a bad experience. They posted two bad reviews on my hotel. Two separate reviews about the same stay. I disputed one of the reviews stating that it was not right that they each could do a review. TA responded to my dispute stating each guest has a right to do a review. The only stipulation was that it had to be different users. I had been telling guests that want to write multiple good reviews that it was not allowed. I quickly shot an email to TA sharing my disgust with them and let them have it. That was a mistake. After the 2 bad reviews I was ranked #3. After sending my email and not receiving any new bad reviews, I dropped to ranked #7. In addition, I have had competitors post fake reviews on my hotel's page. How do I know? I hired a desk clerk that worked for a competitor previously. They told me that their General Manager gave them a list of fake email addresses that he created and told them "during down time" to create TA user accounts and write a bad review about a competior. He gave bonuses to the desk clerk that posted the most fake reviews. My new desk clerk pointed out the review they did. I did ask TA to remove the posting. Believe it or not they did. To make a fake review even more convincing, the GM said to get a name of a desk clek from the competitor and put it in there. Here is another one, write a great review about the hotel, but then rank it all Horrible. No matter what the wording in the review, the hotel's ranking will drop. Obviously, I could have turned around and done the same tricks. I decided to write TA an email telling them about the hotel's GM and his fake postings. I received a response about 24 hours later stating after an investigation they found no wrong doing on the part of the hotel in question. I have also ran across reviews that were verbatim the wording from the marketing piece from the hotel's website. TA is a total joke. Yet, so many of my guests depend on it so I have to deal with the devil. I even respond to every review as follows- "Thank you for taking the time to fill out a review about our hotel on TripAdvisor.com, the best place on the internet for trusted reviews and opinions from real guests." I do not believe it, but I have to say it to keep in the good graces of TA. I am a person that thinks that the goverment should stay out of private company's business. This is one that I think they should step in and do some sort of regulation. TripAdvisor is the biggest scam in the hospitality industry today and needs to go away.

Comments: Hi there, I agree with your warning for this petition. Also: I do not believe in almost 99.9% of reviews on sites like TripAdvisor, Expedia, Travelbug.co.nz, Hotels.com, Venere.com, etc. (especially bad ones) - some reviewers abuse, use it to destroy operators' reputation for no good reasons, have nothing better to do, are racist, force operators to give discounts/cancellation of bookings free of charge to break rules like cancellation policies if not they post bad reviews with or without low ratings (like blackmail), slamming doors, posting that a property is "dirty/unclean" just because the guest(s) does not like the standard check in procedure(s) of the operator, and the list goes on and so forth from what I have witnessed at the actual locations of a number of properties and from browsing the internet. I have only one TripAdvisor account and have posted only 1 review, a good one on a holiday park I have stayed in 2006 with my family. Other properties we have stayed at were and have been really good too. Never relied on what other people think and say. I prefer providing feedback directly with the staff member(s) or the owners than posting on sites like TripAdvisor. From experience, I have also seen satisfied guests leaving positive feedback directly with operators via email and by using their printed feedback forms. Cheers and Kind Regards, Benjamin Yap, a member of the New Zealand Computer Society (NZCS), in Christchurch, New Zealand.
