Comments: Governor Strickland NEEDS to reconsider his decision to commute John's sentence to Life Without Parole and fully investigate this case. This is NOT JUSTICE for John or for the family of Betty Mottinger.

Comments: We must continue to fight for the freedom of innocent men. If he is willing to put his life on the line to prove he didn't commit the crime and live with whatever happens in the re-trial, what does the prosecutor's office have to worry about if they are "correct in the first place" Can the State of Ohio live with itself if it is wrong Can that prosecutor

Comments: A new trial is much needed in the John Spirko case. How can so little evidence IF any at all allow him to spend life in prison much less be on death row.

Comments: The law says "beyond reasonable doubt " .The Governer says that doubt exists so it's either a re-trial or a release with an apology and recompense. The Governer seems to have his tits in a wringer over this but it's not him thats locked up in prison is it

Comments: If there were the same "a shadow of a doubt" of evidence and you were trying to convict a man, you'd be all over that. DNA is scientific and very conclusive. IF, John Spirko were involved in any way in Betty Mottinger's abduction and murder, which he's not, his DNA would be part of the DNA evidence tested. You've been testing DNA evidence for years and try as you might, you still can't make him guilty. You've stolen 26 years of a man's life. Have you read the news Other states are releasing men from Death Row daily based on lack of DNA evidence and you, Governor Strickland need to do the same. At the absolute least, you need to give the man a new trial. You say you're afraid to have John Spirko on the streets I'm more afraid of you on the streets in in control of the State of Ohio perpetrating injustice daily. I demand that you do what's right for the State of Ohio. It's time for you to step up Governor Strickland.

Comments: How typical of Ohio, is this They sneak in the news about his sentence being reduced, on the very day that the media are bound up with Kenny Richey's return to Scotland. What is this, guys Hoping no-one notices or cares enough, in the light of Richey's release Are we all supposed to be thankful that you have changed an INNOCENT man's sentence to a slow death, instead of a faster one This decision was nothing to do with Spirko, but solely a political one - and a cowardly one, at that. If there was 'reasonable doubt' in a Court of Law the jury wouldn't convict, so this should be a retroactive release - ACQUITTAL.

Comments: Commuting sentences scarcely begins to address the injustice in John Spirko's case - it just ensures there will be no more to the litany of execution dates he has survived. This case needs nothing less than full review of a re-trial.

Comments: Spirko is a killer through and through. He murdered a 72 year old woman in Kentucky before he even moved to Ohio. He "lucked out" with the Ohio case but the fact remains he's nothing but a cold blooded killer...

Comments: With DNA evidence in our pockets, I cannot imagine holding ANYONE for life without absolute proof that they committed this crime. If ther eis NO DNA evidence binding this man, then there is certainly reasonable doubt, and then some.
