Transparency for prescriptions

Doctors prescribing medications should know and reveal the cost of the medication they are prescribing. Currently, people with medicaid or medicare receive prescriptions from their doctors without ever knowing the cost of the medicine. They may be receiving medicines that are overpriced, and would rather discuss alternatives rather than pass on the costs to the tax payers. All insurance companies would save money, which presumably would be passed onto the consumer, reducing the cost of insurance considerably. This may reveal a lesser demand for over-priced drugs and the pharmaceutical companies may decide to discontinue production, saving themselves money as well.
