PETITION
To the Legislative Assembly of Ontario:
WHEREAS the proposed East Toronto Transmission Line (ETTL) may make people sick, will drive down property values, and will not beautify our neighbourhoods or the city of Toronto;
AND WHEREAS the ETTL has a projected cost of $600 million;
AND WHEREAS every dollar spent on energy conservation gives the same payback as five dollars spent generating new energy;
AND WHEREAS locally-generated green power must be part of our planets future;
We, the undersigned, petition The Ontario Legislative Assembly as follows:
THAT THE MINISTER OF ENERGY issue a legal directive ordering the Ontario Power Authority (OPA) to cease all work on the proposed East Toronto Transmission Line (ETTL); issue a legal directive ordering the OPA to invest the $600 million earmarked for the ETTL in energy conservation, energy efficiency, and green power options; and to take both these steps immediately.
