This petition is being driven by the Resident Association of Greater Englewood (R.A.G.E.), Imagine Englewood If, Center for Urban Transformation and more!
The Englewood neighborhood has 15 schools on the under-utilized list subject to be closed this year by CPS in order to decrease the budget deficit.
However, the Englewood neighborhood is suffering from plenty of deficits that range from jobs, quality education, healthy food options, social and emotional support, violence and more. Our community desperately needs a space to address many of these issues.
We do not want any of our schools in Englewood closed, but if we lose that battle we are asking asking CPS to work with community residents, parents, students, businesses, and leaders to preserve a building to be used as a community learning center.
This center will address the many social ills of Englewood such as the need for
alternative school options, job training for adults, parental support and resources, technology training, a civic/alderman office, recreation and art based programming that address
violence and more.
