Yesterday's horror in Wisconsin is both a crime against humanity and against the foundations of religious coexistence that have and should continue to "secure the blessings of liberty" in our great nation. As our hearts go out to the Wisconsin and the global Sikh community, it is time to consider the policy shortfalls that have failed to prevent such hateful action. PROBLEM: THE FBI DOES NOT TRACK ANTI-SIKH HATE CRIMES Rather, the FBI groups anti-Sikh hate crimes with Islamic hate crimes, a clear inaccuracy. The Bureau's failure to provide stand-alone statistics for the crimes against an increasingly targeted religious and ethnic group inhibits the proper allocation of Federal resources towards addressing the issues of religious intolerance and violence. In a nation founded on the principle of religious tolerance, destroying the plague of hatred should be a priority, not an afterthought. WHAT WE CAN DO I implore you to sign the petition to track and publish stand-alone hate crimes statistics against the American Sikh community. On Sunday August 12th, the petition will be submitted to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Department of Justice, and national Congress. Thank you for your support. It only takes the response of one policy maker to effect change in attacking this strain of hatred. And again we are here to support the American Sikh community in its time of mourning.
