Oklahoma has one of the more strict laws for child molesters, but the issue is, many of these people don’t serve the maximum time or get the maximum punishment. People who are convicted of child molestation, sexual abuse of a child, or lewd or indecent proposals or acts to a child need to be required to serve a minimum sentence of one year in jail as well as registering as a sex offender and the victims should receive a permanent VPO. Approximately 70% of offenders do NOT serve any jail time, and approximately 40% that do reoffend in less than a year. In some cases the offenders are only getting a slap on the wrist and then going out there and reoffending. Our children need to be protected and right now, that’s not happening.
