Comments: Not sure that the person who wrote the petition really understands the industry. I am a producer who has been in the business for 21 years. I have experienced the peaks and valleys, and have witnessed the mistakes made in the past. This is not the time for any of us freelancers to ask for more money! The roadhouse business has come to a grinding halt because of the strength of the Cdn dollar. Foriegn producers only came to Canada because of the low buck, it's physical likeness to the US, and the fact that the talent pool was representative of US citizens. It had absolutely nothing to do with the experience of the crews (inc. DP's and Producers). We are now left with a very challenged domestic industry. We have a single production company which is now under bidding all others by 20% on a regular basis. They are doing this by hiring cheaper labour, amongst other means. The agency folks are awarding the jobs this company time and time again based on their cheaper numbers. The standards for commercial production are at an all time low as a result. All production companies have cut back to the bare bones in the last couple of years. Students make up the majority of the staff. Small mark-ups are barely paying to keep the lights on and the telephones ringing. What we need to look at are the Production Designers, Wardrobe Stylist, and Location Scouts who over charge and double book. To asume that life will go on as before with a pay increase, is very short term thinking indeed.

Comments: First of all. The whole non-English speaking coirtnues do notunderstand the double-bill IS bullshit. I can tell you, first handthat it is. I am in my mid-thirties, and I used to live in the cityas a little girl. We had tons of 42nd Street-style movie theaters andthey showed double bills constantly. I used to go to these thingsevery weekend. I watched Cannibal Holocaust at the age of nine on adouble bill with some other kung-fu film. So as you can see, this isnothing but a stupid excuse to make more money. Oh, and where I live,Puerto Rico, our OFFICIAL languages are BOTH English and Spanish. Sonone of those excuses apply here. Are you listening, Weinsteins?

Comments: I live in Ecuador, South America, and I hate this move about splitting the movie. Coming from The Weinstein Company it donset surprise me, all the care is about the money. Im a big fan of these two directors (my favorite of course is Tarantino), I have all the dvds too, If I need to pay two tickets im not gonna watch it, guess I am downloading itand then getting the dvd.

Comments: Lewis cates: Thank YOU for blowing-off steam. I think the steniments you expressed are shared by nearly all of us who are loyal Pontiac fans. I, too, think that GM would be foolish to not resuscitate Pontiac. It had such a large and loyal following, it was outselling Buick TWO-TO-ONE here in the US, and offered more models than did Buick. It was a strong, iconic brand. Let's hope that GM comes to its senses SOON.
