Name: Anonymous on Apr 8, 2006Crew Position: ElectricianComments: I've been an electric for the last 8 years and I've watched all my expenses go up every year with no real increase in my rate. For a small increase in rate that would cost production an average of $400 per shoot day I don't think that's too much to ask for. I've seen that much spent on coffee and magazines for client and agency. I believe that treating people with respect goes a long way.Flag

Name: Anonymous on Apr 8, 2006Crew Position: Production ManagerComments: I agree with this is many ways! Our crew have been impressing out-of-towners for years with our dedication to providing production value. It is about time that we acknowlege our crews and Production assistants for the work they do. I fully support this raise. We have to be united as a full service team in order to keep US work flowing in Toronto.Flag

Name: Anonymous on Apr 8, 2006Crew Position: GripComments: I've found the pay rate in movies (with vacation pay and other bonuses) to be almost the same as commercial rates, only I'm getting weeks of work and not just a few days. I've pretty much switched full time to long formate because of this, maybe the rest of you should consider the same if there is no pay raise.Flag

Name: Anonymous on Apr 8, 2006Crew Position: PMComments: Hi all !!! Glad to see you organizing. Many of you know me - Warren Milando- and although I have no say in this petition I welcome it. I've been on a fact finding mission for about a month as I really want to be as informed as possible before Tuesday's meeting. I ask all of you to do the same. Talk to each other, get as many facts and then decide. As a PM I have an advantage of seeing production issues as well as crew. Call me anytime to chat if you wish-416-458-0548. I just want everyone to go get informed. We have to be careful on what we ask for and how fast we want it. Commercials are walking a fine line between staying in Toronto or going to other markets namely South America where it is VERY cheap to make commercials . One note about this petition is with the comment about line producers making 33% more then what the did in 97. This is incorrect. Since 96 Producers have had the same rate. Secondly, producers were forced into a "Shoot Day" flat rate back then that has stuck around ever since. You all are on hourly rates. One day shoots for producers usually works out to a little more then daily PA rate when you factor in Prep and wrap weeks. And with budgets so small...One day shoots seem to be the norm these days. So please, remove that part of the petition as it has no real truth to it. I hope you all get a fair deal and Toronto can keep competing with other world markets so we ALL can keep working. Good Luck!Flag

Name: Anonymous on Apr 8, 2006Crew Position: ContinuityComments: I have the same questions as everyone else. I believe that CPAT is unfairly valuing the contrributions its technicians make to its product and every day I wonder why Toronto Producers and Asst Directors are amongst the highest paid in the country while I am amongst the lowest. There are other ways to stay competitive nationally and globally than on the backs of the dedicated, knowledgable and talented technicians of Toronto who deserve to have their hourly wage (while their annual hours worked diminish) stay abreast of the cost of living, at the very least.Flag

Name: Anonymous on Apr 9, 2006Crew Position: producerComments: I am highly in favour of technicians gettting together and examining all the issues and presenting solutions to the problems our industry faces. I believe that you are due for a pay increase and will support a reasonable increase. However, I am very confused as to where everyone is getting the information that Producer's have received raises.. I have had the same flat rate for over five years. On most jobs, I earn one of the lowest day rates on the payroll. Remember, we only make a flat rate as per shoot day.. we usually have a total of three weeks prep/wrap that is part of that flat. Again, I wil give you 100% support, but please, take the time to really understand the facts.. it will only make your arguement stronger and more powerful.Flag

Name: Anonymous on Apr 9, 2006Crew Position: anonymousComments: i think that along with a modest raise, you gaffers and grips need to crack the whites monopoly. in many other cities, i see gaffers and grips who own their own gear and are able to be far more competitive with their rates as a result. the equipment is in better shape and they are actually able to make a realistic (long term) living out of it. in tha case of vancouver, i believe whites works with keys and provides them with their own truck. production wins this way too why has this not happened here you guys (and gals) deserve better.Flag
