Name: Karen on Nov 22, 2012Comments: There are so many misconceptions with regards to raising hens in an urban environment. This is not a new practice and many other cities in North America have legalized it. As one of the leading cities in the urban agriculture and food sovereignty movement, we should take a step forward and finally legalize backyard hens.Flag

Name: Jaimie on Dec 10, 2012Comments: I am unsure why the city is so against this idea. Not only are free-range chicken (meat and) eggs best health-wise, laying hens provide chemical-free clean-up (scavenging) and fertilizer for our yards and gardens. They also bring an awareness and participation in natural and organic living by directly including us in the cycle of life. Why are we not actively practicing this natural way of eating and living, as opposed to indirectly engaging with this way of life by means of grocery store purchasing or of a 'dream' of farm life? With thought, we can design a well-thought out, humane model for the city of Toronto that would make both neighbour and animal happy.Flag
