This would make us more capable of tackling the problems with factory farming and give people the opportunity to be more present in the production of their food, not the mention the emotional/spiritual connection to nature and personal reliance.Flag

Name: Caroline Smoyer on Feb 12, 2012Comments: I support the lifting of the ban on raising hens in the city. With appropriate regulations or guidelines hens can be responsibly kept in the backyard of residents in the city. Providing them with food security, and a means to educate their children about where food comes from. If cities like NYC and LA can do it, so can Toronto!Flag

Name: Julie Ward on Feb 21, 2012Comments: I just moved back to toronto and have raised chicken north of the city for years. My "girls" provided amazing eggs, lots of laughs and were easy keepers...never messy or a bother. I want fresh wholesome eggs! Not ones from chickens living a horrible existance!!!Flag

Name: Emily on Feb 28, 2012Comments: fresh eggs are the start to an excellent breakfast and truely amazing baked goods. being able to know exactly what went into the chickens wh are giving you said eggs, in the day and age of medicating anything that moves sick, or not, is the most importent thing, because we want to know whats in our food, we want to avoid hormones and things that we dont need or want in our diet. also, whoever says that chickens in the backyard will attract raccoons, has got to be kidding themselves. has anyone ever thought of all the backyard ponds, stocked with fish, fat and easy to catch, attracting raccoons? or the amount of garbage and general trash all over? no one fences off ponds, but chicken coops properly made will keep raccoons out, and why would they bother with all the easily accessable trash and backyard ponds all over the city? ---ps, my address is going to be changing soon as we plan on moving in a few months. i hope the city of toronto reaizes the benifits to its people and to its waste disposal budget and does the smart thing. ( not to mention the possable income they could make if they asked for a {hopefully} small and reasonable registration fee)Flag
