Comments: I believe that having a few chickens in a city like Toronto should not be a crime. I believe that people that want to have 2-3 chickens (no roosters) in the backyard should be able to have them, provided they pay some kind of a license fee to the city. We should be encouraging sustainable living.

Comments: A common sense approach is needed, establishing an appropriate number of chickens per yard size etc, perhaps limiting number of roosters as opposed to hens, but there is no reason that chickens could not be considered in the city limits.

Comments: I think it's great that someone is fighting for the right to keep chickens in the city. I remember when I was a kid my mother had a few chickens and I used to help out with them. They make great pets, aren't very loud, keep the insect population down, the eggs are great, and they are great for teaching responsible pet ownership. I hope that this senseless bylaw is removed so that other families can know the joy of having a fun, and friendly pet that also provides them with high quality food and is easier to take care of than a dog once you are set up. This bylaw is also especially hindering in a time when people are worried about their food coming from factory farms and containing harmful chemicals, hormones, and salmonella. Please update the law to allow chickens to be kept responsibly.

Comments: Homeowners should be allowed to keep chickens if they wish. Perhaps there would be less crime in the city if kids and teenagers were allowed to keep chickens - this would occupy their minds and give them a hobby.

Comments: I believe the city should support non-industrial approaches to all aspects of life, particularly food, and this is one easy way to do so.

Comments: I think you should be allowed to keep chickens as long as they are not disturbing anyone. Their coops are kept clean and their waste is appropriately disposed of or composted.

Comments: Although I don't live in your city, as a neighbouring citizen I have been pleased with how Toronto has taken the lead on so many other environmental issues. I sincerely hope they will do the right thing on this issue too. Good luck

Comments: As long as the chicken owners keep the place where the chickens are kept clean and the chickens are quiet i am fine with chicken ownership in an urban area.

Comments: It is also time to ban the horrendous raising of chickens in battery facatories. It is inhuman, it is appaling, it is barbaric. And in the end, we get chickens full of antibiotics -which they need because of the crowding conditions they live in- or, worse, viruses .
