Leslie Lane | A common sense approach is needed, establishing an appropriate number of chickens per yard size etc, perhaps limiting number of roosters as opposed to hens, but there is no reason that chickens could not be considered in the city limits.

Anonymous | I think it's great that someone is fighting for the right to keep chickens in the city. I remember when I was a kid my mother had a few chickens and I used to help out with them. They make great pets, aren't very loud, keep the insect population down, the eggs are great, and they are great for teaching responsible pet ownership. I hope that this senseless bylaw is removed so that other families can know the joy of having a fun, and friendly pet that also provides them with high quality food and is easier to take care of than a dog once you are set up. This bylaw is also especially hindering in a time when people are worried about their food coming from factory farms and containing harmful chemicals, hormones, and salmonella. Please update the law to allow chickens to be kept responsibly.
Pat Donnelly | Homeowners should be allowed to keep chickens if they wish. Perhaps there would be less crime in the city if kids and teenagers were allowed to keep chickens - this would occupy their minds and give them a hobby.
Krista Darin | I believe the city should support non-industrial approaches to all aspects of life, particularly food, and this is one easy way to do so.
rosanna asinjo | Wow! I would like to see chickens roaming around in Toronto's backyards.

Anonymous | I think you should be allowed to keep chickens as long as they are not disturbing anyone. Their coops are kept clean and their waste is appropriately disposed of or composted.

Therese Taylor | Although I don't live in your city, as a neighbouring citizen I have been pleased with how Toronto has taken the lead on so many other environmental issues. I sincerely hope they will do the right thing on this issue too. Good luck

Sandy M. Cohen | As long as the chicken owners keep the place where the chickens are kept clean and the chickens are quiet i am fine with chicken ownership in an urban area.

Maria Victor | It is also time to ban the horrendous raising of chickens in battery facatories. It is inhuman, it is appaling, it is barbaric. And in the end, we get chickens full of antibiotics -which they need because of the crowding conditions they live in- or, worse, viruses .
Anonymous | There should be nothing wrong with keeping at least 2 chickens in the city as pets / suppliers for eggs.

Kristina Causi | We feel very strongly about this. Those who are interested in healthy living must be allowed to raise chickens in a responsible way. In this day of "green thinking" and whole foods, citizens should be encouraged to help themselves and not be hindered by NIMBY laws!
