This petition has been put in place to encourage the Cork Airport Authority to restore and maintain the hedge sculpture seen in the middle of Cork Airport roundabout. It was a hallmark for the airport and left a lasting impression on those who saw it and gave them a good memory of the county.
In an article written by Irish Examiner journalist Stewart Carry, he is quoted as saying:
"The ‘thing’ used to look like a plane then and I was quite impressed, as I’m sure many other travellers were. And wasn’t that the point after all? Creating a good impression?
It did then, in 1970. It doesn’t now.
Today, the ‘plane’ looks like a hedge that has just crash-landed."
