The University has formally rescinded the eviction notice and confirmed that the lease for the cafe will be renewed. We will monitor the upcoming contract negotiations to ensure the terms remain favorable for Steve. Thank you for providing the leverage necessary to secure this outcome.

I would be absolutely heartbroken with the loss of 'Hello My Friend Cafe'. I'm not a law student, but I make the trip from Campus St Jean two or three times a week for a cup of tea, a nice place to study and a chat with Steve.

As a recruiter from Bennett Jones LLP (Calgary), I looked forward to seeing Steve each year of my visits to the U of A. He was truly a fixture and pillar of the U of A law community and it is extremely unfortunate that his lease is not being renewed.

Hello My Friend Cafe was one of the few stable parts of my life when I was in law school. It's truly shocking to me to think that someone is contemplating its removal. Steve's coffee shop is not just a coffee shop-- it's an integral part of our faculty's culture.

Steve is what keeps law students alive, coffee, of course. But it is Steve's spirit - his kindness and generosity that truly keep us all grounded. I can't express enough how important Steve's little cafe has been to my experience of law school.

Hey, Steve is also a big favorite in the music department, too - which is right beside you lawyer types. The best spot for coffee, the biggest help with our annual grad conference, and generally, the nicest man on campus.

Steve is often the highlight of my day. He brews good coffee and treats everyone with kindness and respect. I am an alumnus of the U of A and still make a point of visitng Hello My Friend Cafe and Steve for a coffee and conversation whenever I am in the area.

I have mixed feelings about this petition. On the one hand, coffee is great. On the other hand, sexual harassment is bad. Could a condition of the renewal be that Steve commit to mending his ways?

If thousands of peoples lives being bettered by one person isn't enough of a reason to keep them around, I'm at a loss for words. Somebody somewhere needs to break out of the bureaucracy and do what is right...
