At the February
27th, 2012, 7pm council meeting in the Township Of Leeds and The
Thousand Islands, we plan on presenting the petition asking council to rescind
their decision to give themselves a collective 60% increase.
We encourage
you to attend this meeting and make not only your voice heard but also your
presence in the council chambers and in the municipal building felt.
We hope to
be on the agenda for the night, however if council decides to censor us we
still plan to present the petition to them. We will make a professional and
courteous presentation to council and we encourage a peaceful and civil
gathering. The citizens of Leeds and Thousand Islands were denied their right
to input into this contentious issue when the bylaw was read and passed in one
sitting.

Here are two links that should tell you the whole story on the salaries:The first one is the previous salary structure that was in place before the increase, straight from the township website:https://leedsthousandislands.civicweb.net/FileStorage/429DD3EC2E534153A93449583938254D-10%20Sept%2010%20-%20Memo%20-%20Expenses.pdfThe second one shows the increase in the form of the new bylaw, also from the township website:https://leedsthousandislands.civicweb.net/FileStorage/E9C2060E84544717BCE58AAD497ACFA4-WorkspaceBy-law%20_12-018.pdfAs you can see, the total increase averages out to 60%. I hope that dispels any myths about the numbers. Some of the local media had their numbers wrong. The bylaws are correct.

If
you believe that this pay increase and the way it was introduced was
wrong then we encourage you to sign this petition. Please also
distribute it by email to people in this township who will share the
same sentiment. Council and Mayor knew what the renumeration
was when they canvassed for your votes. When people in this township
are struggling to stay warm and feed their families, how can we allow
this pay increase to happen?
