This is a petition to fight for soldiers to have more family time, when they are not deployed. Everyday, soldiers in the military get called into work on their days off to take part in things they really dont want to do (i.e. Morale, Welfare and Recreation events designed for single soldiers, not married or soldiers with children or other family). These events are things such as Unit sporting events where married soldiers are forced to attend and cannot spend their time off with their families the way they would like to. Isnt it bad enough that they spend 12-15 months away from their families on deployment? Why make them come in on their day off, after they have worked more than 45 hours an average per week as it is? Things like this are what causes the marital problems, or augments the problems that already may exist in a marriage for a soldier and their spouse. The spouses get frustrated when their husband or wife gets called in to work after they have planned a family outing, or is denied a leave to go on a family trip because the unit is having some type of event and it has been made mandatory for every soldier to attend. Just recently, I was told that on my day off, I had to come into work to watch other soldiers play in a football tournament, not play in, but watch. I am a married soldier who barely gets to see my wife as it is due to my work schedule, and her schedule conflicting. Now, since i had to go to this "PigBowl" i had to cancel yet another planned day with her. This needs to stop! We need to do something about this. Married soldiers, single soldiers with children, and soldiers with other dependant family should be exempt from this type of activities so as to maximize the time they are able to spend with their loved ones. Afterall, who knows when that servicemember will deploy, and die for their country? Who knows just how much more time they will have with family? If you feel the same way, and want to help soldiers get better treatment, be able to spend more time with families, and stop making soldiers have to cancel plans with thier loved ones, then sign this petition. Stop making soldiers dissapoint their sons and daughters when they have to tell them they can't go fishing with daddy because he has to go into work on his day off, or mom can't take her daughter prom dress shopping because she has been forced to attend some mandatory recreation event!
