The safety and security for the students of Thomasville Heights Elementary is our number one concern and we have been hard at work to bring awareness of much needed school bus transportation and security for these students to and from school each day safely.

Current Conditions Before The Children Arrive To School and What They Look Forward To After School:

• There is no bus transportation available for students that live in either of the Forest Cove apartment home communities and attend Thomasville Heights Elementary School.
• There is no safe route for the children to walk to school from home. The route includes walking through the unsafe environment of Forest Cove Phase 1 Apartments (see map). The children then proceed to walk alongside the busy and unsafe McDonough Boulevard. The children are not provided with a crossing guard, nor are the school zone signals turned on to alert traffic to slow down. The children are then expected to cross over Henry Thomas Drive to get to Thomasville Heights Elementary. Then the children are to cross the parking lot of the school again without crossing guards or staff to assist them.
• The average walk each child has to take from home to school is 20 minutes without supervision. The children then have to make this trip again in the afternoon when school is dismissed.
• These apartments are located behind The United States Penitentiary where these children can hear gun fire from the officers rifle practicing.
• Again these are elementary school children who are as young as 5 years old taking this dangerous trip twice a day just to get an education.

The children of Thomasville Heights deserve the opportunity to get to school and back home each day safely and without worry or fear due to the circumstances of a toxic environment that they have no control over.
