Dear friends, Thank you very much for showing great concern and affection towards Thol Bird Sanctuary. On a birding trip to Thol, one young birdwatcher noticed some unusual activities like some people enjoying boating in the lake. The message spread and people who loves the wetland started reacting. Many of them visited the lake on Sundays and found that on Sundays the sanctuary becomes a picnic point, people bathe there, throw stones in lake, there are benches on the wrong side of the pala of the lake which are very close to shallow water. Remote corners of the sanctuary and shrubs are being used by lovebirds. In short, no protocol is being maintained by most of the visitors at the bird sanctuary which, no doubt is creating disturbance on a large scale to the lovely birdlife there. Representations were made to Principal Chief Conservator of Forests along with online petitions which have gathered huge support in very shot time across the globe. Officers in charge of the sanctuary inquired in the matter and declared that it is a mischief by visitors. Somebody might have used the taliyas (small boats) kept there for patrolling purpose and the Forest Department has not allowed any boating activity and in future no such plan of doing the same. Hon\'ble PCCF Mr Khanna assured one of our senior bird lover that the department is not having any proposal of starting any boating activity in the Sanctuary and he himself is not in favour of any such activities at Thol. Officer in charge of the sanctuary Mr Modi has also assured to all bird lovers that he and his staff members are always prepared to handle any challenges and disturbance to the birdlife at Thol. He also agreed to take all necessary actions if proper information regarding any kind of disturbance to birds is provided to him or his team. We are very thankful to all the bird lovers who supported the movement and reacted with true spirit of conservation and shown there affection towards the sanctuary. We are also thankful to all forest officers who sportingly agreed to help. We request all bird lovers to regularly visit the sanctuary and contribute towards the conservation by making the visitors aware of sensitivity of birdlife at sanctuary who comes there to enjoy their holidays. Also please inform us at welovethol@yahoo.co.in or welovethol@gmail.com if you find any such activity which in your view is disturbing to the birdlife and thereof its habitat, so members of our liaison action group can discuss with officers of the sanctuary and work out solutions how to tackle the challenges to protect our beloved birding spot.
