Petition for the government to not create short term solutions concerning the August riots across the UK. We all know the debates concerning why we think the riots took place. However, it is important to ensure that the charities, youth sector workers, and young people are involved in identifying the issues which lead to the riots. In not involving these parties and through gained media pressure we will be creating an environment which will continue to divide our communities. So far we have seen 'punishment' being handed down fed through public anger and media pressure of evicting families from their home, excluding children from mainstream schools, and disproportionate sentences being handed out for some petty crimes. These will not solve the many issues which may have led to the riots but add fuel to the fire. Politicians need to work with these parties to ensure solutions are identified to meet these needs and monitor their outcomes for a lasting change in our local communities. Now is the time to start that movement and close the divisions between the general public and politicians to have their voices heard.
