Lights, lights & MORE lights!!!
Dear Residents of The Peak, As you are aware, the lights in the communal places (i.e. primarily the multi-storey car park, corridors of all levels and lift lobbies) come on at about 7pm every evening; and go out at about 7am in the mornings. In view of many instances where the sky went overcast / dark and rainy DAYS (not nights); all the areas just highlighted were literally all dark, except for the occasional (quickly disappearing) headlights seen at the carpark when a vehicle turned in / turned out. As such, (the relatively athletically-built me ) almost tripped and fell on wet grounds without realising they were wet (as I could not tell in the dark, despite having 6/6 perfect vision.) I am positive the elderly and young have had similar experiences or have even experienced the unfortunate falls. Hence it bothered me for a while and I finally approached the Bishan-Toa Payoh Town Council yesterday, hoping for a solution to this nagging issue. This is what I asked and the reply I received : My 1st Qn: Is it possible to have the lights be on light-sensitive mode instead of the current timer mode? Meaning instead of a fixed 7pm - 7am lights on a daily routine, can the lights come on automatically whenever it lacks a certain amount of light? The (expected) ANS received : No, as the same system operates in many other HDB estates so nothing can be done to change it. My 2nd Qn: I almost fell, my 80-yr-old grandmother almost fell and my 4-yr-old child almost fell; in more than one of these instances; DARK and (rainy / about to rain / after rain stops) DAYS (not nights) on very wet / moderately wet / even DRY grounds. Do I have to wait for a REAL fall before I have a case to put up and get it addressed? The (unexpected) ANS received: As your request comes from you alone, we are not able to do anything . EVEN if you experience the fall alone, it is just one isolated case. However, only if MANY people come to us for the same thing; like with their signatures, we MIGHT do something about it. The rest of the conversation need not be regurgitated here as I was too peeved to find out more. As such, I am writing this post to check if anyone here ever wished for those lights on any one of those dark dreary DAYS, would you join me in a petition to lobby for the light-sensitive lights to replace the current (useless ) light-timer ones? Pardon my layman's knowledge if there is a proper term for light-sensitive / light-timer mode lights. If I manage to garner interest (and signatures) to represent 125 units (which is about 10% of the 1203 units in total at The PEAK @ TPY), I will proceed to submit the signatures to the Town Council, and higher authority if required. Thank you for your time in reading till this point. I hope to hear from you by Tuesday, 30 April 2013 before taking further action! :-D
