Comments: I grew up in Ilford and have many happy memories of going to the Kenneth More Theatre as a child and teenager. We used to go to many plays and musicals there as a family. I have since become a musician myself and am extremely disappointed to hear about the closure of the theatre in the near future. I am very aware of the cuts the councils find themselves having to make, and agree that these are hard times and unfortunately unpopular decisions sometimes have to be made. However, this is a long-standing venue that is part of the area's history and is still being used by so many. Keeping culture alive in communities is a necessity, especially in these unfortunate times. The Kenneth More Theatre will be sorely missed in Redbridge and I would urge Redbridge Council to re-consider this decision, rather than making a rash decision now that will be regretted in a few years time.

Comments: This would be such a shame, to close one of the only decent theatres in the local area. The Arts is one of the ways that people can have a good night out and forget about the misery that is going on around them. And for the performers it is a chance to express themselves and to have an interest. If you take the theatres away, what is left!!!

Comments: Close the Theatre.. are you crazy bonkers? It has nothing to do with the fact that theatre is parked on some prime real estate in the cente of Ilford is it, or that perhaps it might be sold off to a commercial theatre group? Is there no lengths the council won't stoop to deprive the community of a valuable and treasured asset, all in the name of saving money? I am sure I could come & look at the books and find something to cut without damaging the community.

Comments: Just don't even. How could you shut this theatre down? It's been a part of peoples lives for so long and it means everything to anyone who's ever stepped in there and seen the fantastic shows that go on. Not everyone can afford to go to the west end, not everyone wants to visit your cinema complex and if you kill this theatre, not everyone will get the chance to perform on stage, they'll have to go OUT OF ILFORD, elsewhere to get this amazing experience. You're driving the best of Ilford out, we'll have nothing left. Everyone hates Ilford enough, it's only the Kenneth More Theatre that makes the place worth being in.

Comments: This is an important cultural venue for a large area of London and Essex. As a patron I deplore the potential loss of good local theatre and, as a performer whose amateur group has performed at the KMT, I am sad to think I might never tread those boards again. It is a great venue with a wonderful rake so everyone gets a good view. I call upon the council to support this theatre. It's loss will not only mean a loss of culture but of revenue in the area. Many people shop and eat before a show. Does the council want to lose the tens of thousands of shoopers the theatre draws in?

Comments: Closing the Kenneth More Theatre would rip a hole in the centre of Ilford's community. The current Government are keen to push the idea of The Big Society, yet seem hell bent on removing the foundations that make a society work. Theatre gives people a sense of belonging, whether on stage together or having a shared experience in the audience, and this feeling breeds care, responsibility and understanding. The KMT is so much more than just a building, and it should be protected.

Comments: The council always say how they want a united community, it would be ridiculous to take away a big part of what makes that happen. The theatre does not discriminate; it breaks down barriers and allows everybody that goes to share a common love for the arts. Taking this theatre away would not only seriously damage the performing arts but it would also leave young people without an outlet for their creativity; something which should not be allowed.

Comments: I am signing this petition for two reasons. Firstly the KMT provides a great service to the community. There are many groups who attend shows at the KMT, who would find it difficult or too expensive to travel in to London. The theatre is a great way for them to have access to live performance and entertainment in their community. The second reason I am signing is from a petticoats stand point. I have performed at the KMT with Stage One Theatre on a number of occasions and have loved it... Theatres should be preserved for the future generations!

Comments: This is a travesty. This theatre is not just for entertainment, but a valuable resource with facilities to service a community that needs this kind of outlet and activity to be involved in. It provides a focus for the immediate society and the closure of the theatre would be wide reaching. It also brings in an income and I am sure there are a large number of other areas that the council could look at to save money.
