The Canine Manifesto We understand that dogs are thinking, sentient beings who must depend on the care of humans for survival. We recognize that dogs are innocent of malice and ever trusting of man’s goodness. We know that dogs need our benevolent leadership, not our domination. We believe that it is unacceptable to frighten or use physical force on dogs in the name of training. We will do all in our power to see the world through a dog’s eyes and, by so doing, establish with our dogs a relationship based on mutual respect and understanding. We realize that our treatment of dogs reflects on our moral character and the character of our nation as a whole. These are our beliefs publicly stated for both dog and man.
