Demand accountability for the theatre space proposed for UBC's new SUB!

UBC lacks venues for student-run performance art including theatre, film, music, and dance. For the new SUB, an affordable, accessible studio-style theatre was proposed to provide students with meaningful creative opportunities.

Unfortunately, this theatre space has not been granted fair consideration. The new SUB committee continues to neglect consulting a professional theatre technician, despite acknowledging this as a necessity.

As it stands, the proposed SUB theatre is unusable. It has windows. It is not sound proof. It has no storage, backstage, or control booth. The grid is too low.

Simply put, the design will not function.

We, students of UBC, cannot let this opportunity go unfulfilled!

We are paying for this space and the committee has neglected to respect this through proper student and professional consultation. So far, the new SUB theatre space represents an empty promise. We can change this.
