This petition is to put into law that Step-Parents who are one of the primary caregivers of their stepchildren have the same if not close to the same rights, responsibilities of the biological/custodial parent. It is known that if a child lives with another parent their step parent is also responsible for their care, i.e. that they are not abused, nor neglected but the rights of these stepparents are limited to just that in the State of New York. This means that a stepparent cannot get the stepchild medical care, cannot have the information that is needed/impertinent for the child's health, well-being, education, and the overall care for the stepchild.
