The Pledge of Allegiance Official Debate
The Pledge of Allegiance is recited by American citizens. Yet it is against American Virtues. "I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America. And to the republic, for which it stands, One nation under GOD, indivisible. With liberty and justice for all." The statement "One nation under GOD" is unconstitutional. God is capitalized and is used as a singular noun. This refers to a select few religions. "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof..." These are the words of the First Amendment. We therefore request that the government of the United States of America officially delete the words "under God" from the Pledge of Allegiance. Thank you
