Research shows 1 in 7 nurses are at risk of substance addiction. This professional issue in nursing is one that deserves the attention of students, new graduates, and veteran nurses alike. Alternative to disciplinary action programs are on the rise throughout the United States and are a favorable approach to assist nurses back to practice while still protecting patient safety. It is through the confidence and support of State Boards of Nursing that nurses are able to regain self-esteem and entry into the profession.
