The threat of those fines has been dropped and we have the time we needed to transition properly. I am honestly stunned by how quickly you all stepped up to protect this space. This success belongs to every one of you who spoke out when we were feeling backed into …
The Human Rights Center (HRC) occupies and owns two units in Building E of Abbey Court, Carrboro. Furthermore, the HRC has been in Abbey Court since early 2009, without complaints by management, and has a zoning variance from the Town of Carrboro. A resident lives at the Center.
By all accounts, we have improved the lives of the residents, helped the children with social and intellectual adjustment, and have helped to create a community where people are hopeful.
The lawyer of the home owners association of Abbey Court will impose an excessive fine on the HRC.
Please support us by signing this petition that requests we have a grace period. The HRC will agree to leave Abbey Court by May 15th.
I am honestly overwhelmed by the kindness you have shown in getting us near one hundred signatures. This momentum is entirely because of your belief in our work at the center. If you know anyone else who might be willing to lend their name to this request for a grace period, please pass this along to them today.

This is just wrong. They do so much good for the neighborhood and now they are being forced out? Leave them alone.

Worked with them before and they are nothing but helpful. Abbey court needs to show some basic kindness here.

Ridiculous to slap them with a huge fine when they have already agreed to leave by may. let off the gas already.
