Comments: Dr. Levine, I've hated medical school with the large exception of your hematology course. It gave me some hope that there are some beautiful caring people still in this profession. I can count the reasons I haven't dropped out of school on one hand, and you make the list. Best of luck in your move to CoH.

Comments: Your caring and dedication to patients is remarkable. Your impact on my education was significant. The students that follow me will be losing a lot if they do not have you to teach them how to interact with patients compassionately and professionally while bringing hope to many hopeless situations.

Comments: Dear Dr. Levine, Throughout your time at USC, you have directly and indirectly touched numerous lives by your powerful teaching and example. You are a true angel and blessing to your patients, and the students see that more clearly than you may know. In fact, your interaction with one of your patients during a first year lecture brought many of us to tears - you are a true gem!!! You are a much needed role model for personal and professional excellence, compassion, hope and brilliance. Your calm demeanor and kind face put everyone in your presence at ease. We were truly lucky to have you. Each medical student who came into contact with you is forever changed - our standards are higher, and we strive to be the kind of doctor you have demonstrated for us. Each patient and family who comes into contact with you is forever changed - by your hugs and your fighting will, these people are better off in your healing hands no matter what the outcome of their disease. You are a wonderful human being and will be greatly missed by the future students. I know you will bring years of "Levineness" (from the movie You, Me and Dupree) to City of Hope. I know that hospital is the best, and they deserve the best. I'll never forget you and wish you the very, very best during this exciting transition!! Yours truly, Kristine Tate MS IV

Comments: I fear we are losing our leadership and vision in the "Art of Medicine" as we push on to be a top 10 institution. Losing such a powerful presence as you to remind students of the humanity of medicine saddens me. Academic ranking is meaningless without a humanitarian foundation and framework to guide our vision. Please let us know if there is any possibility of continuing your legacy in the art of medicine. Perhaps a seminar series of leaders like you to guide our vision. I would love to see such a series named in your honor. You are one of the primary reasons I've made it through school because remembering your teachings has been a source of motivation, inspiration and a constant reminder of what medicine can be.

Comments: Dr. Levine, we are sad to see you go but I know that lives at City of Hope will be greatly enriched by your presence there. I want you to know that there are times that I have seen physician attitudes and felt disappointed and uncertain of my place in medicine, but that faculty members and physicians like you define the ideals and humanitarianism that draw us to medicine in the first place. The world is a better place because of doctors and teachers like you. You will be greatly missed. Best wishes and many blessings in all future endeavors.

Comments: It has been a privelege and a pleasure having been taught by you. You are the type of physician I could only aspire to be like. Your leaving is a tremendous loss for the Keck School of Medicine and for every student who will not have the honor of being taught by you. Best wishes on your endeavors at the City of Hope. I hope our paths continue to cross both professionally and personally. You are truly an inspiration to us all. John Michels

Thank you again for being the teacher, physician, and person you are, and for the opportunity I had to learn from you. Sincerely, Julia Cormano, MSII

Comments: Thank you, Dr. Levine. This letter doesn't reflect my feelings as well, because I believe that sharing you with others is as important as continuing to have you in our midst as an educator and a physician. I wish you the best with whatever you choose, or have chosen. I know that you are guided by your inner convictions and the needs of both your patients and colleagues. Although I feel that you are a truly gifted teacher, whose educational philosophy and methods have been foundational to the practice and teaching of many generations of Keckers, I also feel confident that you will make a much greater impact on those you serve by following your heart and intellect wherever they lead. Again, thank you Dr. Levine, I wish you the best in your future endeavors. Please don't let our needs and interests hold you back from doing the work that you are obviously so blessed and gifted to be able to do.

Comments: Dear Dr. Levine, Thank you for being the kind of physician, teacher, and person that you are. I just wanted to say that you had a huge impression on me last year as a first year medical student. I've come to realize that we all have varying capacities to give just as we all having varying degrees of skill sets and predispositions. And everytime I walk past University Hospital or the Norris Cancer Center, and I see a photo of your kind face somewhere, it calms me and gives me great hope that I will too remember to be as giving a person as you are and have been to your patients and your students all these years. Thank you, Dr. Levine, for always being our advocate and role model. I wish you much joy and success this holiday season and in all your future endeavors. Gratefully, Jane Truong, MSII
