West of England Partnership is applying for our Clubhouse in the Cumberland Basin to be demolished to make way for a rapid transit system.
Our Clubhouse has stood for 34 years and was opened by the Lord Mayor of Bristol in 1967.
Club members regard this facility as a real bonus, not only does it provides us with a meeting place, it enables the club to have a real identity.
The Clubhouse is listed as a 'diving storage shed' but is so much more than that. It is fully equipped with facilities that include toilets, heating, lecture facilities, a sophisticated commercial alarm system and is used to host social and charity events for the both the club and outside organisations.
A lot of hard work has gone into renovating and adapting this building by our members, to make it the focal point and social hub of our club that it is today. If West of England Partnership has it's way we would be homeless, with nowhere to store our boat, training equipment or compressor system. This would have a devastating impact on our club and membership. If the demolition is unavoidable, we ask that we be moved nearby into a suitable facility.
