Senator Sepecter won a very close primary in Pennsylvania. His opponent was Pat Toomey, a Republican as opposed to a RINO. Toomey was for smaller government, lower taxes and he was Pro-Life. He was a conservative and he gave Specter quite a race. Specter should have learned his lesson. He should have realized that Republicans want strong leaders who can stand by the party's core values. This is what Specter should have learned but he hasn't. Instead during the Senate elections, he promises the liberal Post-gazette that he will protect Roe V. Wade. Now he is lashing out against the President-A man who helped Specter during the Primaries! He is warning the President that he should not nominate conservative/pro-life judges because they will just be voted down. Specter is throwing his weight around-the weight of the fact that he is the expected choice to head the Senate Judicary Committee. This choice is at the discretion of Senator Frist, who we are urging NOT to allow Specter to get away with this.
Arlen Specter is quoted as saying "The president is well aware of what happened, when a bunch of his nominees were sent up, with the filibuster...And I would expect the president to be mindful of the considerations which I am mentioning."
Specter is thumbing his nose at the president with the weight of a position he does not have. Do not let the Bork episode repeat itself! We need to keep Arlen Specter out of this position.
Because Arlen Specter has decided to work against Republican issues and ideals, the undersigned Republicans request that he be removed from consideration to head the Senate Judiciary Committee. |
