In Canada there is only five laws in our
criminal code that have to do with animal abuse. Only five laws that protect
the animals that inhabit Canada. Our laws state that an animal is someone’s
property. A person can do what they want with their property in Canada. Then
there's the term "willful neglect" in are code. Which means a person
can only be charged for abusing an animal if it was willfuly done, and if the
court can prove that they did it. Canada's laws are based on the United
kingdoms laws. Yet the U.K has 13 pages of laws on animal abuse. Thirteen laws
that help keep there animals safe, that but the abusers in jail. We need to
tell the Canadian Government to start making laws that will actually put the
abusers behind bars.
