Name: Brendan Jordan on Feb 16, 2012Comments: Everyone should have equal treatment, regardless of gender, colour or social background, and that definitely includes participation in sports, People have spent centuries fighting inequality (Jesses Jackson) and we now find it still on our backdoors. Why should a bunch of middle aged “gentlemen†in the IRFU decide where our nation’s money should go, I attend local , provincial and international matches, with the money I contribute to the IRFU via gate receipts, my expectation is that it is spread equally across all the IRFU teams and within the development aspects of the game, Not pay for 40 of our top rugby players salaries. Who by the way, earn 5 to 6 times the national average income. Our Ladies are representing this nation, it’s about time that the governing body back these ladies or we will see a similar faith to the Irish Ladies Rugby team as we are seeing with Connaught team on the European stage. Shame on the IRFU, Everyone is equal!!!!.Flag

Name: Trish Montgomery on Feb 16, 2012Comments: The IRFU only pays lip service to womens rubgy as evidenced by their treatment of the National squad. However, being involved with Div. 2, and previously Development level, I can honestly say that the IRFU doesn't even bother with the lip service for teams at this level. I am appalled at the insensitive manner in which the various competitions are 'planned' with no regard to the wishes of the teams. It's a 'like it or lump it' approach which ultimately makes it extremely difficult to attract new players. An example of this is the All Ireland cup. Access to this is dependant on the outcome of the Provincial cups. Any teams not qualifying are faced with no rugby until the resumption of the league in April. They are refusing to organise a secondary competition, i.e. plate or shield, where the less successful teams can compete with their equivalents in other provinces. The sop of playing challenge games has been thrown out but because the expense of travelling for these games falls entirely on the teams it is usually not a viable option. The introduction of an alternative competition would give teams something concrete to aim for and would assist in highlighting womens rugby within the clubs and the public in general.Flag
