Name: Annie Moser on Feb 28, 2010Comments: since tech amergin was set up, it's been widely used and has brought a greater sense of community into waterville. The courses have helped to increase self confidence and the skills base of people living in the surrounding area. It is a vital resource at this time of unemployment and recession, which of course affects those in the West of Ireland proportionately worse than in other areas. I hope you will look carefully at the budget and re-think how you can make the centre efficient to run, and for it to remain operative.Flag

Name: Bernadette Bates on Feb 28, 2010Comments: Tech Amergin is the only educational and social facility in Waterville available to us. It is difficult to go to the pub/ bar with the drinking and driving laws and also the expense, so as well as the educational facility it is a great social asset. Waterville is very quiet in the winter months, so events in the Tech are what keep us going. The irish government is concerned about depression and suicide rates, but then they try to take away the only thing that keeps us going. These people obviously live in town and cities with everything freely available to them!Flag

Name: Eithne Garvey on Mar 1, 2010Comments: Please return the Tech Amergin Centre Director to full time hours to manage Tech Amergin. If there is no manager, there is no way that Tech Amergin can organise a business plan to help KES get itself out of the situation that it now finds itself. We live an hour and hour and a half away from any other cultural centre, so we need to keep Tech Amergin open. The courses provided are as a direct result of the demand from the local community. Most of us have enjoyed either courses, workshops, or entertainment and in most cases, we've enjoyed all aspects, especial the very real welcome that meets you once you walk in the door. Please show your support, and help Tech Amergin management come up with some ideas on how to raise funds to keep the VEC from closing us down. Eithne GarveyFlag

Name: Geraldine Hickey on Mar 1, 2010Comments: Tech Amergin provides excellent courses and entertainment all year and in particular provides courses for the autumn and winter to a population whose business is often seasonal and therefore forms a vital part of the local community and should be supported. i have attened a course on a wet bank holiday so it also provides occupation and etertainment to visitors to the area.Flag

How short sighted to reduce support for one of the engines of such energy. There is NOTHING elitist about artistic endeavours.Flag

Name: Anne Ormond on Mar 1, 2010Comments: I wish to strongly support this petition. I am particularly concerned about the difficulties this proposed reduction in management time will have, given the importance to the local, and visiting, community of this wonderful and vibrant centre for learning, arts and culture. The widespread village and rural community in Waterville, and its extensive hinterland from Caherdaniel to Kells, needs and deserves to have this minimal investment in its community services.Flag

Name: Cormac Dineen on Mar 1, 2010Comments: Teach Amergin has contributed so much to South Kerry. It’s has done so much to promote the arts in the area. The centre encourages people to get involved in the arts, as the GAA has done with Gaelic Football.Flag

Name: Amelia Etherton on Mar 1, 2010Comments: I find the Tech Amergin a life line for me and my family in Kerry. That this place can attract many of Europe's best theatre productions, musicians from every field and world class art exhibitions is testament to the hard work done by the people behind it. It's an extremely unusual and special place. I've done many excellent courses that have helped me in work, as well as inspired me with hobbies. My children too have been involved in things that cannot be available at school due to time and money. Kerry would be poorer by far without the Tech.Flag

Name: Tony Daly on Mar 1, 2010Comments: I think the center manager needs to be available at all times. There is a greater need for the center now more than ever in this time of high unemployment in this region. Curtailing the hours of the manager serves no useful purpose. Cutting costs to a center like Tech Amerigin would only increase costs ten fold elsewhere in the system.People can not expect to gain employment without the availability of training & to that end reducing the managers hours is going to achieve what ? Regards. A M DalyFlag

Name: Margaret Curran on Mar 1, 2010Comments: Tech Amergin is a wonderful centre for all age groups. I have attended courses there for many years and it is a life line with the outside world for people, like myself, who is house bound, as a carer, and have a few free hours a few times a week to enjoy learning new skills. Susan, the manager, is an excellent and friendly lady, always there to help and advise at all times. Please give Susan back her hours. Margaret Curran.Flag
