It is contradictory that people are jailed due to immigration violations--which by statute are civil violations--not criminal. If the US government wants to take on the burden of "housing" those who violate immigration laws, it must take on the FULL duty of cariing for those individuals which includes providing adequate housing, healthcare, education, and access to legal counsel. |
