We, the undersigned citizens of Tazewell County, Illinois (henceforth "County") and the surrounding area, hereby petition the County Government to enact a "right-to-carry" firearms program for its citizens to protect themselves and their loved ones from harm by exercising the rights granted to them by the 2nd and 14th Amendments of the United States Constitution.

"Right-to-carry" laws are proven to reduce crime rates (example: Florida's handgun homicide rate dropped 41% after enacting a right-to-carry law) and they have also been shown to deter crime without any firearms being discharged in approximately 99% of recorded incidents. This means that a "right-to-carry" program not only reduces the rate of firearms related crime, but it does so through nonviolent show of force in most cases, thereby further lowering "firearms violence" related statistics.

The County "right-to-carry" program should include either a "concealed carry" option or an "open carry" option for all eligible citizens, and any and all limitations of the program must be clearly listed and made publicly available to the citizens and law enforcement officials of the County.
