Property owners who have no children in school pay taxes toward schools while parents who don't own property send their kids to school for free. Additionally our schools in the United States are far behind many industrialized nations. In order to raise money for schools and have parents take a greater interest in public schools every parent who has a child in public school should pay a student tax which would be comparable to property tax on a car. Considering that many parents get thousands of dollars each year from the federal government in tax refunds it seems only fair to expect parents to invest that money back into the community they live in and the school they send their child to (not only to raise funding but also to encourage parents to expect a return on their investment).
