Name: Barbara Kabrick on Mar 7, 2010Comments: Without taxi drivers there would be no taxi industry. Clearly, these workers should have workers compensation coverage paid for by those profiting from their labor, just as other workers do. I support this bill.Flag

Name: John Hough on Mar 7, 2010Comments: As a former taxi driver, I support this bill and will fight for it to the best of my ability. Taxi driving is one of the most danger professions, everyday we face the possiblity of being robbed and shot. and there are not protections available to help us. This is a bill that needs to become a law for the safety of the people who make sure toursits have a safe and happy experience in our city.Flag

Name: Donald Nathan on Mar 8, 2010Comments: Having fought for cab drivers' rights to workers compensation for the past 31 years in Illinois, I feel the relative low cost of it is such that Pennsylvania cannot afford to be without it for its drivers. The dangers drivers face are such that they cannot be without a means to obtain medical treatment and disability payment while recovering from injuries sustained in the course of and arising out of their employment relationship for relatively modest cost.Flag

Name: Charles Chambers on Mar 9, 2010Comments: With the level of control exercised by most cab companies/owners, this should be a no brainer. Drivers have control over most aspects of the minutae that make up their jobs, but have no effective control other than protected concerted action with regard to the single biggest expense of their business operation - the amount that they are charged to rent their cab daily. Additionally, cab companies and dispatch operations walk right up to (and in many cases) over the line separating independent contractor from employee. $10/week is not too much to absorb given the weekly expense of renting a cab.Flag
